The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has announced that its boycott of future men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups remains in place, despite FIFA abandoning its controversial plan to partially privatize the tournaments.

According to UEFA, FIFA's decision to scrap the project satisfies only a fraction of their conditions for lifting the boycott. The European governing body stressed that solid guarantees must be provided to ensure similar commercial initiatives are never introduced again.

Additionally, UEFA affirmed that its position regarding a complete loss of trust in FIFA President Gianni Infantino remains unchanged.

The development follows an emergency FIFA leadership meeting held on August 5 in Morocco. In the wake of the gathering, FIFA issued an official letter to national and continental associations, apologizing for the missteps surrounding the contentious proposal.

Despite the fallout, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström and members of the governing board reiterated their support for Infantino. FIFA stated it would learn from recent events and improve its internal governance and decision-making processes moving forward.
