The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kazakhstan has issued an urgent public safety warning following a series of devastating tragedies that have claimed the lives of 69 children since the beginning of the swimming season. Authorities are calling for heightened parental vigilance as the summer holiday period continues, noting that the vast majority of these fatal incidents occurred in prohibited or non-designated swimming areas.
According to the Ministry, these unauthorized locations pose severe risks, including strong undercurrents, deep pits, and hazardous debris that have not been vetted for safety. Officials emphasize that adult negligence remains a primary cause of these losses. In particular, the consumption of alcohol while supervising minors is identified as a critical factor that diminishes parental awareness and leaves children vulnerable to accidents. Furthermore, medical experts and rescue teams are highlighting the physiological dangers of entering cold water during extreme heat, which can trigger sudden vascular spasms and muscle cramps, making even strong swimmers susceptible to drowning.
In response to the rising death toll, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has intensified enforcement of safety regulations. Arman Sadanov, Chairman of the Committee for Administrative Police, reported that over 2,700 individuals have been held administratively liable this year alone for swimming in restricted zones, as per Article 364 of the Code of Administrative Offenses.
To prevent further loss of life, the Ministry urges all citizens to strictly adhere to safety protocols: parents must ensure they use only officially authorized, supervised beaches, maintain constant visual contact with children at all times while near water, and educate minors on the hidden dangers of open water bodies. The authorities emphasize that personal responsibility is the most critical element in ensuring the safety of children during the summer season.
