Tole Bi Avenue has become the most accident-prone roadway in Almaty during the first five months of 2026, according to data provided by the city’s Police Department.

Authorities reported that 160 traffic accidents were recorded along the avenue between January and May. The crashes claimed two lives and left 135 people injured.

Other major roads with the highest number of reported accidents include Abay Avenue, where 80 incidents resulted in 88 injuries, and Al-Farabi Avenue, which saw 70 accidents, causing four fatalities and injuring 75 people.

Overall, Almaty registered 2,964 road accidents during the first five months of 2026. As a result, 22 people lost their lives, while 3,242 others sustained various injuries.

Statistics from 2025 show that the city experienced 7,620 traffic accidents throughout the year. Those incidents led to 73 deaths and hundreds of injuries. Abay Avenue ranked first with 352 recorded crashes, closely followed by Tole Bi Avenue with 351. Ryskulov Avenue and Al-Farabi Avenue were also among the city’s most dangerous roads in terms of accident numbers.

Police officials attribute most road accidents to speeding, unsafe driving maneuvers, failure to yield at pedestrian crossings, driving into oncoming traffic lanes, and not maintaining a safe distance between vehicles.

Drunk driving remains another serious concern. In 2025, intoxicated motorists were responsible for 51 accidents that resulted in two deaths and 73 injuries. During the first five months of 2026, nine alcohol-related crashes were reported, leaving three people dead and 14 others injured.
