President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited to Doha to convey his deepest condolences to the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, following the passing of the Father Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Akorda press service reported.
The Head of State emphasized that Sheikh Hamad made a significant contribution to transforming Qatar into a powerful and prosperous nation. President Tokayev honored him as an outstanding statesman and a true friend of the Kazakh people.
According to President Tokayev, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing the relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar. He visited Kazakhstan twice on official state visits; notably, during his first visit in 1999, he was welcomed by Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs at the time.
The President fondly recalled that, with the support of Sheikh Hamad, the Al-Farabi Mosque was constructed in Astana, and several vital social and infrastructure projects were implemented during the early years of Kazakhstan's independence.
In response, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, expressed his gratitude to President Tokayev for his support, viewing it as a testament to the fraternal bond between the peoples of Kazakhstan and Qatar.
During their meeting, the leaders exchanged views on the current international situation and regional developments in the Middle East. President Tokayev extended an invitation to the Emir of Qatar to visit Kazakhstan, which Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani graciously accepted.
