The stage is set in Atlanta as the Mercedes-Benz Stadium prepares to host the second semi-final of the 2026 World Cup tonight. England and Argentina are set to go head-to-head in a high-stakes battle for a place in the final.

The match kicks off at 00:00 Astana time (July 16) and will be broadcast live on the Qazsport channel.

England enters the semi-finals for the first time since 2018. Thomas Tuchel’s side secured their spot after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Norway in the quarter-finals, marking their fourth consecutive win in the tournament. On the other side, the reigning world champions, Argentina, continue their dominance. Under Lionel Scaloni, they have now reached the semi-finals in three of the last four World Cups, following their success in 2014 and 2022.

The clash is expected to be a spectacle of individual brilliance. Lionel Messi remains the focal point for Argentina, currently the tournament’s top scorer with eight goals and a leading contender for the Golden Boot. England, however, boasts a lethal attack of their own, with Harry Kane and Jude Bellingham both sitting on six goals each. Bellingham’s incredible form has seen him net four times in the last two knockout matches.

History adds another layer of tension to this encounter. These two nations share a storied and often heated rivalry, most notably the iconic 1986 quarter-final, remembered for Diego Maradona's controversial "Hand of God" goal.

The winner of this semi-final showdown will advance to the grand final on July 19, where they are set to face Spain.
