A critical situation has emerged in southern and southwestern France, where simultaneous, intense forest fires have forced the evacuation of nearly 3,000 residents, according to reports from Deutsche Welle.

The wildfires have severely disrupted local infrastructure. Near the municipalities of Rognac and Lançon-Provence, north of Marseille, the flames have obstructed traffic, leading to the suspension of several rail services connecting Marseille, Bordeaux, and Avignon.

Additionally, a major blaze in the Occitanie region, near Puichéric-Minervois, has already scorched approximately 9 square kilometers of vegetation. Firefighting efforts in the area are being significantly hampered by strong winds reaching speeds of 70 meters per second. In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, a fire in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer devastated a local campsite, destroying dozens of caravans and bungalows.

A massive emergency response is currently underway, with nearly 2,000 firefighters deployed across the country to battle the elements. Official data indicates that 12 square kilometers of land were incinerated on July 1 alone. Since the beginning of the season, approximately 7,000 fire incidents have been recorded, resulting in the destruction of 87 square kilometers of forest.

Meteorologists attribute the catastrophe to a prolonged 11-day heatwave in June, during which temperatures soared above 40°C. With Météo-France forecasting further temperature spikes, authorities have issued urgent warnings for the public to exercise extreme caution.
