Alakol Prepares for Record-Breaking Tourist Season

Alakol Lake in the Zhetysu region is gearing up to host a record number of visitors this holiday season. During a government meeting, regional governor Beibit Isabayev announced that the resort area expects to welcome approximately 2 million tourists this year.

Responding to inquiries from Prime Minister Oljas Bektenov, the governor confirmed that plans are in place to complete all major infrastructure projects within the resort zone using government-allocated funds. To further encourage tourism, the national railway operator, Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, has reduced ticket prices for several key train routes.

However, concerns regarding the resort's full readiness persist. Earlier this month, Minister of Tourism and Sports Erbol Myrzabossynov noted that several domestic resort destinations were not yet fully prepared for the season. The primary issue facing Alakol is the ongoing shoreline reinforcement work, which has been stalled since last year due to a lack of funding.
