The death toll from the catastrophic earthquake in Venezuela has risen sharply. Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly, confirmed that the devastating seismic event has claimed 2,295 lives, as reported by Cadenaser.com.

Currently, over 11,000 individuals have sustained various injuries, and more than 12,000 residents have been left homeless. A state of emergency remains in effect across the affected regions. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, involving more than 4,000 specialists who have successfully recovered over 6,400 survivors from the rubble.

Authorities reported that 782 aftershocks have occurred since the initial tremors, though the intensity of the seismic activity is now gradually decreasing. In a separate development, four police officers have been apprehended for looting during the crisis. The government has officially declared a seven-day period of national mourning.

The international community has mobilized to provide aid, with over 3,700 rescuers and 148 search dogs arriving from 51 different nations to assist in the relief efforts. It is worth noting that the country was struck by two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the magnitude scale prior to the current emergency.
