Significant updates are being introduced to the allocation rules for state-provided housing in Kazakhstan, with the new regulations coming into force on September 14. According to the Housing Relations Department, authorities distributing state housing will consider both total living area (15–18 square meters per person) and family structure, specifically the gender of the children.

Asem Alzhanova, Head of the Housing Relations Department under the Ministry of Industry and Construction, clarified that families with two same-sex children (two boys or two girls) will qualify for a two-room apartment. Conversely, if a family has children of different genders, a three-room apartment will be assigned so that each child has an individual bedroom.

If a property matching these criteria is unavailable when a family's turn arrives, they may be offered an apartment with fewer rooms. Should they decline, they will retain their position on the waiting list until a suitable option opens up.

Child psychologists support the move, noting that having personal space fosters independence, safety, and a healthy sense of boundaries. Representatives from Otbasy Bank and government officials believe this targeted strategy will make state housing distribution substantially more equitable.
