OpenAI has announced the launch of a tailored version of ChatGPT for teenagers aged 13 to 17, aimed at fostering a safe and constructive environment for the first generation growing up with artificial intelligence.

The specialized model introduces strict safeguards to filter out harmful topics, including self-harm, suicide, and romantic or sexual content. Additionally, the system limits information on sensitive matters like eating disorders, actively guiding users toward offline professional support when critical situations arise.

A key structural update centers on academic integrity: ChatGPT will no longer generate ready-made answers for school assignments. Instead of completing homework for students, the chatbot acts as an educational mentor, prompting users to think critically and solve problems independently.

Parental control features have also been integrated. Once linked to a teen's account, parents can set "quiet hours" to manage screen time and receive automated safety alerts regarding potential risks.

To enforce these protections, OpenAI uses age-estimation algorithms that evaluate prompt patterns and user queries. If the platform identifies a user as under 18, it automatically transitions their account to the teen-restricted mode.

This initiative represents a pivotal step toward cultivating a culture of responsible AI use among young audiences.
