Public agencies and private businesses in Kazakhstan have been advised to hold off on installing signs, billboards, and public displays written in the Latin script. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education explained the intent behind this unexpected pause.

The decision aims to prevent unnecessary expenses and spelling errors ahead of the official adoption of the updated alphabet. Local administrations, government bodies, and private companies must wait until the revised script undergoes final approval.

Currently, linguists from the Akhmet Baitursynuly Institute of Linguistics, the Til-Qazyna National Scientific and Practical Center, and local universities are refining the Latin-based Kazakh alphabet and its spelling rules. Most of the funds previously allocated for the transition were returned to the state budget following strategic adjustments. Additional funding will be released only after all relevant legal frameworks and standards are formally ratified.
