Washington is facing mounting pressure as political tensions reach a boiling point. A fresh Reuters/Ipsos survey reveals that U.S. President Donald Trump's public approval has crashed to 33%, marking his lowest point of the current term and tying his all-time low from December 2017. According to the data, 64% of Americans express blatant disapproval of the current administration's course, down from a previous rating of 35%.

The crisis is driven by several key factors. Protracted military engagements have crippled oil transit via the Strait of Hormuz, sending domestic fuel prices soaring. While Trump dismissed the fallout as a "justifiable price to pay to block Iran’s nuclear ambitions," a mere 20% of citizens agree. At the same time, plagued by a surging cost of living, the Democratic Party has overtaken Republicans on economic stewardship for the first time in ten years, with 38% of voters favoring Democratic economic governance. Furthermore, the GOP's traditional stronghold on immigration policy has evaporated, shrinking from a 26-percentage-point lead in January 2025 to a razor-thin 2-percentage-point margin.

With nearly 80% of the electorate fearing a protracted conflict, these seismic political shifts are fueling high-stakes rivalry ahead of the looming congressional midterms.
