Atmospheric air quality is set to deteriorate in six major cities across Kazakhstan due to upcoming unfavorable meteorological conditions (UMC), according to the press service of Kazhydromet RSE.

The regions at risk include:

  • Astana

  • Almaty

  • Jezkazgan

  • Karaganda

  • Temirtau

  • Ust-Kamenogorsk

Unfavorable meteorological conditions consist of a combination of short-term weather factors, such as light winds, fog, and temperature inversions. These natural phenomena cause harmful pollutants to accumulate in the surface layer of the atmosphere, which can negatively impact air quality and pose health risks to local residents.

Accurate forecasting of synoptic conditions—including wind direction, precipitation, humidity, and air temperature—plays a crucial role in determining pollution levels.

In addition, Kazhydromet previously issued storm warnings for the majority of Kazakhstan's regions. Several provinces are expecting thunderstorms, hail, squalls, strong winds, and extreme heat reaching up to 42 degrees Celsius, alongside a continuing high and extreme fire hazard across the country.
