Significant legislative amendments have been introduced to the rules governing surname assignment in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Citizens can now give their children a surname derived from the father's given name, as well as the names of paternal or maternal grandfathers, in alignment with national traditions. According to Huquqiy axborot, the relevant adjustments were made to the Labor and Family Codes, alongside several other legislative acts.

Previously, the effective Family Code did not provide the option to choose a father's first name as a surname. These new norms are designed to preserve the nation's cultural roots and family customs.

Concurrently, the legislative updates have also overhauled the archival sector. Amendments to the "Archival Affairs" Law officially authorize the establishment of electronic and private archives across the country.

Key requirements within the archival sector include:

  • Digital Infrastructure: Electronic archives must be fully equipped with specialized hardware and software designed for document digitization.

  • Security Compliance: Archival electronic systems must strictly adhere to comprehensive information and cybersecurity standards.

  • Private Archives: These entities are formed to preserve and account for documents that constitute the non-state segment of the National Archival Fund.

Furthermore, the new legislation clearly outlines the expanded regulatory authority of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan over archival management. These legislative acts entered into force immediately upon official publication.
