Sergek Cameras to Capture Electric Scooter Violations and Issue Fines

Automated Sergek surveillance cameras in Almaty will soon begin registering traffic violations committed by electric scooter riders, according to Saltanat Azirbek, official spokesperson for the Department of Police, speaking at a Regional Communications Service briefing.
Following legislative updates that officially designated electric scooters as full-fledged vehicles, law enforcement authorities are integrating kicksharing company data with police databases and the Sergek system. Once this integration is fully operational, traffic infractions will be identified automatically to issue appropriate penalties.
Currently, enforcement relies on direct monitoring by patrol officers, district inspectors, and specialized scooter units, with over 18,000 electric scooter riders held administratively accountable for traffic violations in Almaty since the beginning of the year. Additionally, residents and visitors can report scooter-related infractions via a dedicated police WhatsApp line, while city authorities have drafted an updated traffic organization plan to standardize parking zones for electric scooters, mopeds, and other personal mobility devices.
