The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has introduced new directives requiring the mandatory screening of social media profiles for Green Card applicants. Under these guidelines, immigration officers are instructed to identify signs of "extremist views," which now include participation in pro-Palestinian protests, criticism of Israel, and the desecration of the American flag.

According to internal documents, applicants must be vetted for anti-American and anti-Semitic sentiments. Specific examples of disqualifying behavior include posting maps where Israel is replaced by "Palestine" or making statements that endorse violence against Israeli citizens. Furthermore, the directive advises against issuing residency to individuals who have historically "endorsed, promoted, or supported anti-American views."

As part of the expanded vetting process, applicants for immigrant, tourist, and student visas must provide their social media handles. Officials will review post histories, likes, shares, and comments to find "disqualifying" content. Consequently, a single post supporting Gaza or a critical remark regarding the Israeli government could lead to the denial of a U.S. residency permit.
