US President Donald Trump has announced a temporary suspension of operations to escort vessels stranded in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the BBC Russian Service.

The President stated that "Operation Project Freedom" will be paused for a short period to evaluate the potential for a peace agreement with Iran. Trump noted that this decision was made following requests from Pakistan and several other nations.

In his statement regarding the suspension, the US President highlighted "significant progress" toward negotiations with Tehran. However, he emphasized that the blockade in the Strait of Hormuz remains in effect for the time being.

Previously, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that "Operation Epic Rage" had successfully achieved its objectives, marking Washington’s transition to the next phase, "Project Freedom."

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), the operation involves destroyers, aircraft, and approximately 15,000 military personnel.

Recent attacks in the Strait of Hormuz have raised serious concerns about a potential breakdown of the truce. The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reported that an unidentified projectile struck a cargo ship. Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates reported that its air defense systems have intercepted Iranian missiles and drones for the second consecutive day.

In response, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the United States and its allies of jeopardizing the safety of maritime navigation in the strait.
