The AI Scientist system, developed under the leadership of Professor Jeff Clune from the University of British Columbia, has achieved a major breakthrough in the field of research. For the first time, a scientific paper fully generated by an algorithm without direct human participation has successfully passed the international peer-review stage.

To test the system, researchers submitted three AI-generated works to ICLR, a prestigious international conference on machine learning. As a result, one of the articles received approval from human reviewers, who did not suspect any deception. These works were later withdrawn by the project authors to maintain ethical standards.

By April 2026, it has become clear that reliable AI detectors no longer exist. Neural networks have learned to mimic individual writing styles, including specific phrases and intentional minor flaws typical of human authors. This milestone marks a significant shift in how scientific content is produced and verified globally.
