At the invitation of Rachid Talbi El Alami, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Morocco, a delegation led by Mazhilis Speaker Yerlan Koshanov visited the Kingdom of Morocco on an official trip. In Rabat, the Mazhilis delegation met with Rachid Talbi El Alami, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives, Mohammed Ould Rashid, Speaker of the House of Councillors, and Aziz Akhannouch, the Prime Minister of Morocco.

During the meeting with Rachid Talbi El Alami, the parties discussed cooperation between the two countries. Speaker Koshanov emphasized Kazakhstan President’s focus on strengthening partnership with Morocco and conveyed his warm regards to King Mohammed VI.

Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Kazakhstan and Morocco have developed strong ties across several sectors, including parliamentary cooperation.

Koshanov highlighted the importance of deepening inter-parliamentary dialogue, exchanging legislative experience, and enhancing collaboration between friendship groups, specialized committees, and parliamentary staff.

“We are committed to strengthening parliamentary cooperation, and Morocco shares the same interest. As representatives of our people, we must open paths for closer interaction between our countries. Friendship groups within our parliaments remain in constant contact. This year, the Moroccan friendship group’s visit to Astana was productive, and we should continue this practice in the future,” said Speaker Koshanov.

The Mazhilis Speaker also briefed his counterparts on ongoing reforms in Kazakhstan, provided detailed information on the work of the Kazakh Parliament, and explained the upcoming parliamentary reform. In turn, Rachid Talbi El Alami praised President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s reforms.

“We continuously monitor President Tokayev’s reforms. They contribute significantly to the development of the country and will certainly positively affect the work of the Parliament. Kazakhstan connects East and West at a strategic crossroads. We are ready to strengthen cooperation with you across all sectors. Morocco aims to serve as a gateway to the African market for Kazakhstan,” El Alami said.

The development of inter-parliamentary partnership was also widely discussed during the meeting with Mohammed Ould Rashid, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Councillors.

“I would like to note that a new phase in our parliamentary relations began in 2014. The then Speaker of the Moroccan House of Councillors, Mohamed Biyadillah, visited Astana on an official trip. In turn, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, as Speaker of the Kazakh Senate, made an official visit to Rabat. These steps laid a solid foundation for cooperation between our parliaments,” said Koshanov.

The Chair of the Council of Advisors emphasized the crucial role of high-level visits in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.

Speaker Ould Rashid stressed the importance of high-level visits in enhancing bilateral cooperation. “Although our countries are far apart, there are many links connecting us. We see Kazakhstan as a gateway to Central Asia. This spring, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs visited us, and today your official visit is taking place. High-level visits like these expand the horizon of our relations. I am confident that our deputies will work together to meet the expectations of King Mohammed of Morocco and the President of Kazakhstan,” he said.

Additionally, Yerlan Koshanov met with Morocco’s Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, where the parties focused on strengthening economic cooperation. They discussed trade expansion, investment, artificial intelligence, agriculture, transport and logistics cooperation, and actively developing the “Middle Corridor” transport route. The discussion also covered cooperation in education, healthcare, tourism, and culture.

This year, a visa-free regime for citizens of both countries came into effect. Plans to establish direct flights are currently being considered, which will facilitate closer people-to-people ties.

During the visit, the delegation paid respects at the mausoleum of King Mohammed V, laying flowers to honor the memory of the state founders, King Mohammed V and King Hassan II.
