Margulan Sharel, a 12th-grade student at Spectrum International School in Astana, is a multiple winner of both national and international mathematics Olympiads. This was reported on the school’s Instagram page.

This year, he won a silver medal at the prestigious IMO International Olympiad held in Australia. The large-scale competition featured approximately 650 talented students from 112 countries. The Kazakhstan team finished 17th overall, bringing home four silver and two bronze medals.

Margulan’s outstanding achievements did not go unnoticed. In August, he met with President Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev at the Akorda Palace. The President personally welcomed 27 top-performing students from seven major international competitions. For his silver medal, Margulan received a cash prize of 3,932,000 tenge.

Additionally, the young prodigy was recognized in Khabar TV’s “My Good People” project, receiving a 1 million tenge award. Margulan donated this money to purchase books for students at his former school, the Zhambyl Regional Education-Innovation Lyceum, supporting them in preparing for competitions.

Margulan shared his thoughts:

“Participating in the international Olympiad gave me not only a cash prize and an iPad, but most importantly – knowledge and friends. These competitions allow you to meet talented young scientists across Kazakhstan, and I believe such friendships will last a lifetime.”

“As a member of the national team, you cannot stop. There are big goals ahead, and achieving them requires daily hard work,” Margulan added.

The gifted student also offered advice to his peers:

“For me, mathematics is not just a subject. Each problem is like a key that opens the door to new opportunities. I wish all young people to find their path early and work persistently toward it,” concluded the young mathematician.
