Service dogs, the reliable partners of Kazakhstani law enforcement, are demonstrating remarkable results in the fight against crime. Maxim Cheban, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) K-9 Center in Almaty, released sensational data regarding the past year's performance.

Within a single year, these canine officers directly assisted in solving more than 4,000 crimes. Their sharp sense of smell and specialized training made it possible to crack the most complex cases:

• Over 50 murders were solved.

• 15 robberies and approximately 1,000 thefts were exposed.

• 1,500 drug-related crimes were uncovered.

With the help of K-9 units, more than 12 tons of narcotics and precursors were seized from illegal circulation. This total includes over 700 kg of "synthetic" drugs, which have become increasingly prevalent among youth. Experts noted that these seizures are equivalent to saving hundreds of lives.

During the briefing, a frequently asked question regarding the fate of aging service dogs was addressed. According to Maxim Cheban, dogs that have reached the end of their service life are neither sold nor put down. In most cases, the K-9 handlers themselves take their partners home, or the dogs are placed in trusted hands. This practice serves as a sign of profound respect for the "colleagues" who served faithfully.
