The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan has issued an urgent appeal to citizens planning trips abroad, calling on them to strictly observe precautionary measures. This warning comes in response to the World Health Organization (WHO) declaring a public health emergency of international concern due to the spread of Ebola on the African continent.

According to official data, the current epicenters of the outbreak are registered in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The situation is complicated by the fact that this particular outbreak is caused by the extremely rare Bundibugyo strain, for which there are currently no available vaccines or specific medical treatments. Consequently, healthcare professionals can only provide supportive therapy and manage complications.

In light of this, the health department strongly recommends that Kazakhstanis traveling abroad verify the epidemiological situation in their destination country before purchasing tickets. Travelers must strictly monitor personal hygiene during their trips and closely observe their health for several weeks upon returning home. If any symptoms of illness are detected, individuals are required to seek immediate medical attention instead of resorting to self-treatment.

According to experts, the symptoms of Ebola caused by the new strain develop suddenly. The illness begins with a high fever, severe headache, pronounced weakness, muscle and joint pain, a sore throat, and a dry cough, accompanied by redness and tearing of the eyes. In the subsequent stages, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rashes, and general exhaustion of the body are observed. The incubation period of the virus lasts from 2 to 21 days.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that the Ebola virus is not transmitted via airborne droplets. Infection occurs exclusively through direct contact with the bodily fluids of an infected individual. The risk of transmission significantly increases among family members providing care and medical personnel if protective measures and equipment are not utilized.
