In a strategic move to bolster the nation’s transport and logistics potential, Kazakhstan has announced an unprecedented investment in its railway sector. Talgat Aldybergenov, Head of the national company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ), stated that more than $10 billion will be allocated to the industry by 2030. This initiative is being implemented under the direct mandate of the Head of State.

Extensive construction and renovation projects are already underway across the country to enhance connectivity and efficiency:

• New Rail Lines: Approximately 1,800 kilometers of new railway tracks are currently under construction.

• Large-scale Modernization: Over 3,000 kilometers of existing tracks are undergoing comprehensive upgrades, a process equivalent to building new infrastructure in terms of technical complexity and capacity.

• Capacity Expansion: The construction of a second track on the Dostyk – Moyynty section has already yielded significant results, increasing train throughput from 12 to 60 pairs per day.

By the end of 2026, an additional 500 kilometers of railway lines are scheduled to be commissioned. Key priority projects include:

• Darbaza – Maktaaral: A project designed to facilitate and accelerate transit toward Central Asian markets.

• Moyynty – Kyzylzhar: A critical link in the formation of the Trans-Kazakhstan Corridor, aimed at strengthening the country's transit role between East and West.

This multi-billion dollar commitment follows a long-term strategy of infrastructure spending. Over the past 15 years, Kazakhstan has invested a total of approximately $35 billion in the broader transport sector. The current $10 billion roadmap represents a focused effort to transform the railway network into a high-speed, high-capacity hub for global trade.

These reforms are expected to significantly reduce transit times and cement Kazakhstan’s position as a premier logistics gateway in Eurasia.
