The U.S. has officially confirmed the extension of a special license allowing Kazakhstan to transit Russian oil to China through its territory.

According to Bloomberg, following lengthy consultations with the U.S. Treasury, the permit has been prolonged until March 19, 2027.

This decision enables Kazakhstan to maintain steady transit of about 200,000 barrels per day. In today’s reality, this is not just a logistical issue, but a key element of global energy security.

Following the license extension, Astana and Moscow have entered active negotiations to boost transit volumes. The goal is to raise the ceiling to 12.5 million tons of oil per year, which will require additional loading of the "Tuymazy - Omsk - Novosibirsk-2" (TON-2) pipeline and the "Atasu - Alashankou" system.
