Significant political changes have taken place in Iran's leadership following the official confirmation of Ali Khamenei's death. According to Iran International, the Assembly of Experts has officially appointed a successor.

The new Supreme Leader is the 56-year-old Mojtaba Khamenei, the second son of the late Ayatollah. Long considered one of the most influential figures behind the scenes, Mojtaba’s appointment marks a historic transition in the Islamic Republic.

Experts note that the new leader maintains deep-rooted ties with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), suggesting that the country is likely to maintain its firm stance in both domestic and foreign policy.

The interim governance, previously led by President Masoud Pezeshkian and a temporary leadership council, concluded with this official election.

• Iran has declared a 40-day mourning period, with the upcoming week designated as a non-working week across the nation.

• The transition follows the official confirmation on March 1st that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei passed away following a joint military operation.

The shift in leadership has already drawn global attention. U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with CBS News, stated that the change in leadership might "make it easier to reach an agreement" with Iran, signaling a potential shift in diplomatic dynamics.
