Southern Thailand has experienced unprecedented heavy rainfall, resulting in extensive flooding across ten provinces. In Hat Yai, precipitation reached 335 mm in a single day, representing the highest recorded daily rainfall in 300 years. The extreme weather event has caused substantial submergence of residential areas and transportation infrastructure, with residents forced to seek refuge on rooftops awaiting emergency assistance, reports BBC.

Nationwide, the floods have resulted in 33 fatalities and have affected over two million individuals. Despite the scale of the disaster, only 13,000 individuals have been relocated to evacuation centers, leaving numerous areas inaccessible and isolated from humanitarian aid.

The Royal Thai Armed Forces, tasked with crisis management, have mobilized an aircraft carrier, fourteen boats, specialized trucks, jet skis, and field kitchens capable of providing 3,000 meals per day to support relief operations.

On 26 November 2025, the government officially designated Songkhla Province, which includes Hat Yai, as a disaster zone and allocated emergency funding to support affected populations. Nevertheless, a significant number of residents remain stranded, with rescue teams receiving thousands of evacuation requests over the preceding three days.

The flooding has also affected neighboring nations.[Video link] In Vietnam, 98 fatalities were reported within the past week, while in Malaysia, over 19,000 individuals have been evacuated from affected areas.
