The Rome authorities have decided to introduce a 2-euro fee for visiting the famous Trevi Fountain in Italy. Starting February 1, tourists who want to approach the fountain must purchase a ticket, while residents of Rome and those viewing from a distance can enter for free, according to Tengri Travel. Mayor Roberto Gualtieri said the measure aims to manage tourist flows, protect the monument, and make visits more comfortable.

The fountain sees an average of 30,000 visitors per day, rising to 70,000 during peak periods. As part of preparations for paid entry, barriers will be updated to better organize visitor movement and reduce congestion.

The fee will apply not only to the fountain but also to Villa Maxentia, Napoleon Museum, Carlo Bilotti Museum, Bilotti Museum, and Canonica Museum. Entry remains free for Rome residents, people with disabilities, and children under five.

The Trevi Fountain dates back to 1640, with its modern design created by architect Nicolo Salvi. The tradition of throwing a coin and making a wish is still maintained.

Funds collected from entry fees will be used for charity, including free canteens and shelters for the homeless.
