The United States and Iran are preparing for high-stakes direct negotiations scheduled for Friday, April 10. According to reports from Axios, the meeting is expected to take place in Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.

This summit marks the first face-to-face meeting between high-ranking officials from both nations since the onset of the current conflict. While the White House has remained cautious regarding official announcements, Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that discussions regarding private meetings are underway. She emphasized that nothing is definitive until formally announced by President Donald Trump or the White House.

The delegations are expected to include high-profile figures:

• U.S. Leadership: Vice President JD Vance is tipped to lead the American delegation.

• Diplomatic Strategy: Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the President’s son-in-law, have been central to the diplomatic preparations.

• The Mediator: Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed he invited both parties to Islamabad, expressing hope that the move will foster lasting regional peace.

The road to this meeting has been turbulent. While President Trump previously issued a stern warning to Iran, stating that "entire civilizations could be destroyed," a temporary two-week ceasefire was later announced on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz remains open.

However the regional situation remains fragile. On April 8, drone strikes attributed to Iranian forces were reported in Kuwait and the UAE. Consequently, the upcoming Islamabad meeting is being viewed by international observers as a "last chance" to stabilize the region and prevent further escalation.
