A 13-year-old girl in Melbourne, Australia, has been charged with 109 offenses committed over a period of just 74 days. According to investigative reports by The Guardian, the minor allegedly carried out these acts to gain social media popularity and accumulate "likes."

The teenager faces a litany of charges, including reckless conduct endangering serious injury, theft, grand theft auto, and aggravated burglary.

One of the most severe incidents occurred on March 30, when the suspect, driving a stolen vehicle, intentionally attempted to strike a cyclist in southeast Melbourne. The incident resulted in injuries to a 45-year-old man.

Upon seizing the girl's mobile phone, police discovered evidence of premeditation. Records showed the suspect had searched the internet for potential legal penalties regarding hit-and-run incidents and other crimes. Furthermore, she displayed a profound interest in monitoring news coverage and engagement metrics related to her own criminal activities.

The prosecutor stated that the teenager averaged 1.45 crimes per day throughout the 74-day spree. During court proceedings, statements were cited in which the defendant claimed that "nothing would stop her" from continuing her actions.

Notably, in December 2025, Australia became the first country in the world to officially ban children under the age of 16 from using social media. However, recent surveys indicate that 31% of parents report their children still maintain active social media accounts despite the legislation.

The court denied the teenager's request for bail, citing a "high risk to the community." The next court hearing is scheduled for May 4.
