On March 18, air quality is expected to deteriorate in ten cities of Kazakhstan, according to Kazhydromet.
Cities likely to be affected include Kostanay, Pavlodar, Karaganda, Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Temirtau, Oral, Aktobe, Almaty, and Astana.
Meteorologists explain that the situation is caused by calm winds, light breeze, fog, and temperature inversion, which contribute to the accumulation of pollutants in the lower atmosphere, sharply reducing air quality.
Residents are advised to limit time outdoors, especially near highways and other sources of pollution. Children and pregnant women should avoid long outdoor activities, and people with chronic illnesses are advised to carry their necessary medications. It is also recommended to reduce physical exertion outside and exercise in indoor spaces whenever possible.
