Public Transport Fare Hike Approved in Astana: Key Changes for Passengers

The Akimat of Astana has officially established new tiered fare rates for urban and suburban public transportation. Under the updated structure, passengers paying electronically on urban routes will be charged 150 KZT, whereas cash payments will double to 300 KZT.
According to the decree, electronic payments for standard city routes and designated socially significant transport services are fixed at 150 KZT. For express routes, the electronic fare stands at 300 KZT, while suburban travel will cost 13 KZT per kilometer.
Cash payment options incur significantly higher rates. Passengers paying cash on standard city routes and socially significant transport will pay 300 KZT, and express route cash fares are set at 400 KZT. Suburban commuters paying cash will be charged 19 KZT per kilometer.
The regulation also emphasizes passenger protections, stipulating that if the electronic payment system experiences an outage or technical failure, commuters are entitled to ride free of charge.
City officials previously noted that public transport fares in the capital had been revised only once over the past 12 years. The municipality subsequently proposed raising the standard electronic fare from 110 KZT to 150 KZT to match current operational requirements.
