Meta has unveiled a new open-source hardware project named Muse Gadgets, allowing developers to build custom physical devices integrated with Meta's personal AI agent, Muse. According to TechCrunch as reported by QRNews, the company released open-source firmware and a Linux developer kit alongside project templates, creating a dedicated Discord community for builder collaboration.

To showcase the platform, Meta tested the codebase on its own hardware creation, the Muse Home Link. Nat Friedman, Head of Product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, announced on X that the USB-C-powered device connects Muse directly to home networks, enabling the AI agent to manage smart appliances, speakers, and televisions. Meta manufactured 5,000 Home Link units to distribute free to Muse subscribers, with high demand driving tens of thousands of post views within hours.

This hardware push aligns with Meta's broader strategy to establish Muse as an all-encompassing AI ecosystem. Meta recently introduced a free tier with usage caps connected to Shopify, Dropbox, and Slack, alongside the launch of the Meta Enterprise Platform targeting corporate clients. Apptopia estimates reveal that Muse saw 1.8 million iOS downloads in the US and Canada during its first 12 days, outperforming ChatGPT's initial mobile launch metrics, with total downloads reportedly exceeding 5 million within 22 days. Operating on tiers ranging from free to $100 per month, Muse offers autonomous task execution including booking trips, managing email, and filling forms.
