Car Dealership Head Jailed Over KZT 128 Million Fraud Scheme in Astana

The director of an Astana-based car dealership has been convicted of defrauding vehicle buyers out of more than 128 million tenge. According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, over the course of a year, the executive executed reservation agreements with clients to purchase and import vehicles from China, but subsequently misappropriated the collected funds for personal use.

To cover up the scheme and create the illusion that the vehicle delivery was underway, the perpetrator provided victims with fabricated bank transfer receipts.

The fraudulent scheme victimized six individuals, causing financial damages exceeding KZT 128 million.

The court sentenced the perpetrator to six years and eight months in prison. Furthermore, civil claims for the recovery of the material damages were fully granted. The court sentence has officially entered into legal force.
