As part of preparations for establishing direct air service between Kazakhstan and the United States, Air Astana’s aviation security program will undergo evaluation, accompanied by a thorough security assessment of the departure airport prior to the launch of flights. These matters were addressed during a meeting in Astana between representatives of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan and the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).

The discussions took place within the framework of ICAO Aviation Security Week 2026. The US delegation was led by Eric Yatar, TSA Executive Director for Aviation and International Policy. Both parties examined key security mandates necessary for launching non-stop flights, with a primary focus on refining Air Astana's security documentation to align with TSA standards.

American officials outlined critical steps that must be completed ahead of the route's inauguration. First, the airline's security program must undergo formal review. Additionally, passenger data transmission systems must achieve full compatibility with the TSA Secure Flight initiative. A comprehensive assessment of the airport's overall aviation security posture must also be conducted before flight operations commence.

These tasks will be carried out in coordination with regulatory procedures administered by the US Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The meeting also reviewed the outcomes of prior preliminary airport inspections and evaluated progress on TSA recommendations.

Kazakhstani representatives expressed keen interest in studying the American aviation security framework. To support this, options were discussed for familiarizing local officials with US legislation, security mandates, and TSA operational practices. US representatives confirmed their readiness to supply structured materials detailing the relevant regulatory guidelines.

Furthermore, both nations agreed to maintain cooperation regarding the security of air cargo operations and global supply chains. While a specific launch date for direct flights has not yet been announced, ongoing efforts remain focused on systematically fulfilling all mandatory security protocols to facilitate seamless direct air connectivity.
