All Rental Bikes in Astana to Be Locked Starting October 1

The official city bike-sharing season in Astana is coming to a close. On the night transitioning from September 30 to October 1, all bicycles across stations citywide will be locked, according to a announcement from the press service of City Transportation Systems.

Once locked, renting a bicycle via the Velobike.kz service will be unavailable until the start of the next season.

The company also clarified how active subscriptions will be handled. While subscriptions themselves will not carry over to the new season, any remaining user account balances will automatically be preserved and transferred to next year. Alternatively, users who prefer not to roll over their funds can request a cash refund at the central CTS ticket office located at 50/1 R. Koshkarbayev Avenue.

The end of the bike-sharing season in Astana is dictated by local weather conditions. Operating bicycles during the winter months amidst sub-zero temperatures and snow cover poses safety hazards and is impractical, which is why the service traditionally operates from spring until the onset of autumn cold.
