Why Malaysia Is Denying Entry to Kazakhstani Citizens

Incidents of Kazakhstani citizens being denied entry and turned back at the Malaysian border have become increasingly frequent. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the main reason behind this issue is the widespread violation of visa-free entry regulations.

Under current rules, Kazakhstani nationals may visit Malaysia without a visa for up to 30 days for tourism or short-term business trips. However, individuals planning a longer stay, as well as those traveling for educational or medical purposes, are required to secure an appropriate visa in advance.

Problems have arisen from travelers attempting to bypass limits using "visa runs" - stepping into a neighboring country for a day or two before re-entering to reset their 30-day allowance. Malaysian immigration authorities treat this scheme as an illegal circumvention of the law and have significantly tightened border checks. Travelers caught using this tactic are detained at the airport, sent to holding centers, and face deportation.

The Foreign Ministry strongly advises travelers, especially parents taking children to language courses or academic programs, to prepare all documentation beforehand. Standard visa-free entry does not cover educational courses, which require an official Student Pass. Furthermore, incoming visitors must present confirmed return tickets and valid proof of accommodation upon arrival.
