Shyngys Arinov Appointed Governor of Almaty Region

Under a decree issued by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Shyngys Arinov has been appointed as the new Governor of the Almaty Region.

This leadership change follows the stepping down of Marat Sultangaziyev, who was relieved of his post as regional governor on September 4, having led the area since June 2022.

Prior to this appointment, Shyngys Arinov served as Kazakhstan's Minister of Emergency Situations, a position he had held since February 2024. His extensive public service career also includes key security roles, notably as Deputy Head of the State Security Service and Head of the Presidential Protection Service.

Born in 1983, Arinov is already well-acquainted with the area, having previously made several official working visits to the Almaty Region during his tenure as Emergency Situations Minister to inspect local civil protection infrastructure and fire safety readiness.
