Ozon Urges Sellers to Shift Inventory to Kazakhstan Warehouses Amid Supply Chain Disruptions

Ozon has encouraged sellers to store their products at its warehouses in Almaty and Astana starting September 1. The company stated that these fulfillment centers will dispatch orders to customers across Russia, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan.

According to Ozon, utilizing facilities in Kazakhstan speeds up delivery to local buyers while serving as a hub for orders bound for Russia.

The platform announced that cross-docking and transport services to the Almaty and Astana locations will be free of charge until September 30. There are no volume restrictions at these Kazakhstani centers, and heavy or oversized items are fully accepted.

Ozon emphasized that delivery times to Russia will remain reasonable despite the greater distance; for instance, shipments from Kazakhstan to Yekaterinburg will take roughly 4 to 5 days on average.

This strategic pivot follows recent drone attacks targeting logistics hubs operated by Russian e-commerce giants. Reports indicate that Ozon's facilities sustained hits in late August. Earlier, Wildberries similarly began evaluating options to reroute non-perishable inventory to warehouses in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus.

Following the strikes in Russia, Ozon's shares dropped roughly 26% on the Moscow Exchange. Meanwhile, affected Russian marketplaces have requested direct government compensation to support merchants whose logistics chains and inventory were damaged.
