Kazakhstan and China Plan Mutual Recognition of Driver's Licenses

Kazakhstan and China are preparing to mutually recognize and exchange driver's licenses. A draft government resolution regarding the bilateral agreement has been published on the "Open Legal Acts" portal for public discussion.

If approved, citizens of both nations will be permitted to drive passenger vehicles in the host country under specific conditions.

Under the proposed terms, drivers will not be required to retake driving school courses or pass additional exams. Instead, they will be granted driving privileges based on their home country's valid driver's license.

The current scope of the agreement specifically applies to B1 category driver's licenses.

This initiative follows the mutual visa-free regime established between Kazakhstan and China in November 2023, which has led to a noticeable increase in Chinese visitors traveling to Kazakhstan.

The agreement remains in the draft stage and has not yet officially entered into force.
