Kazakhstan's state-owned energy giant KazMunayGas (KMG) currently holds enough oil reserves to sustain production for more than 45 years, according to Askhat Khasenov, Chairman of the company's Management Board.

Speaking to reporters following a government meeting, Khasenov detailed the company’s current resource base across both its directly managed fields and joint ventures. The total combined oil reserves stand at 785 million tonnes.

  • Reserve Volume: KMG continually audits its assets, with proved reserves reaching nearly 800 million tonnes.

  • Production Timeline: Based on KMG’s annual extraction rate of 26 million tonnes, the current reserves alone ensure operational continuity for over 45 years.

  • Ongoing Replenishment: Khasenov stressed that this timeline does not imply oil supplies will run out after four decades. Active geological exploration and new well drilling are designed to consistently add new deposits to existing reserves.

While private oil reserves are periodically updated through new discoveries, Kazakh citizens also retain the option to track national energy developments as exploration expands across strategic basins.
