The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan has initiated a pre-trial investigation following the discovery of weapons in an apartment owned by Nazarbayev University, located in the "Highvill" residential complex in the capital. This was announced by the Vice Minister of Internal Affairs, Sanzhar Adilov, during a plenary session of the Mazhilis.

Previously, reports circulated in the media and on social networks regarding the detention of two foreign nationals at the aforementioned residential complex, where an arsenal of weapons was seized. During the initial inspection, law enforcement agencies stated that the confiscated items were antique artifacts and did not qualify as modern combat weapons.

However, Mazhilis Deputy Murat Abenov revisited the issue, questioning the legality of possessing such items in a residential setting not authorized for weapon storage. Responding to the deputy's inquiry, Vice Minister Adilov confirmed that a specialized investigative team had been deployed based on the report.

Currently, the following measures are being taken regarding the case:

• A criminal case has been officially launched in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

• A comprehensive forensic examination has been assigned to experts at the Center for Forensic Excellence to determine the exact characteristics of the seized items.

• The legality of the relevant permits for the weapons is undergoing a thorough verification.

The Vice Minister noted that further details are not being disclosed due to the confidentiality of the investigation; however, a supplementary report will be provided following the forensic results. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has placed this case under special supervision.
