Do Not Call, SMS Only: Robocalls to Be Banned by Law

The country is preparing to legally ban automatic callbacks for missed calls. The initiative gained official momentum on May 22.

The push for these changes came after a speech by Deputy Askhat Aimagambetov, who publicly raised the issue of annoying robocalls during a plenary session of the chamber on May 13. At that time, the Vice Prime Minister and Zhaslan Madiyev promised to consider the possibility of reviewing this function.

According to the draft order commented on by Vice Minister Doszhan Musaliev, automatic callbacks for missed calls will be completely banned. Instead, subscribers will receive short text SMS notifications informing them that they had a call.

To date, the Ministry of Digital Development is finalizing the draft resolution, taking into account the comments and suggestions from the Ministry of Justice.
