The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Kazakhstan has announced that it is monitoring the situation involving Alekeb Karatay, an employee of Burger King Kazakhstan with an autism spectrum disorder.

According to the ministry, the state labor inspector of Almaty visited Alekeb Karatay’s home and explained to his father how to properly submit a request in accordance with labor legislation. Information on the legal protections provided under current laws was also shared.

The ministry reported that the employer, QSR LLP (Burger King), is conducting an internal investigation. During the review, one of the managers has been temporarily suspended.

Previously, the employee’s mother stated on social media that pressure had been applied to force her son to resign. She noted that Alekeb had worked as a chef in one of the chain’s restaurants for approximately four years, but had recently faced harassment.

In response, the company confirmed that the employee has not been dismissed. They offered several solutions to resolve the situation, including a transfer to another restaurant, and expressed readiness to engage in dialogue with the employee and his family.
