Information circulating on social media claiming that acid rain from Iran will reach Kazakhstan and Central Asia is not true, according to Kazhydromet.

Meteorologists explained that acid rain usually forms when sulfur oxides and nitrogen compounds emitted from industrial sites, power plants, or vehicles spread into the atmosphere. Such phenomena are typically observed near the source of pollution.

“When air masses travel long distances, the concentration of sulfur oxides and nitrogen decreases due to natural atmospheric processes. According to current monitoring results, no harmful substances have been detected in Kazakhstan or Central Asia,” Kazhydromet reported on March 9.

It is worth noting that over the weekend, Israel struck oil depots in Iran, causing a major fire in Tehran. After the incident, it was reported that the city’s sky was covered with thick smoke.

Iran’s Red Crescent Society stated that after the explosions at the oil depots, toxic hydrocarbons, sulfur oxides, and nitrogen were released into the atmosphere in large quantities. Following this, some experts warned of a potential risk of acid rain.
