Minister of Foreign Affairs Erlan Sarsembaev has introduced a new initiative regarding the role of the Kurultai in key state appointments and the grounds for its dissolution. According to the Minister, if the members fail to approve the candidates proposed for major positions twice in a row, the Head of State will have the right to dissolve the Kurultai.

Under the new initiative, the President will appoint the following officials only with the consent of the Kurultai:

  • The Vice President
  • The Prime Minister
  • 10 Judges of the Constitutional Court
  • 6 Members of the Central Election Commission
  • 8 Members of the Supreme Audit Chamber

If the Kurultai denies consent twice, the Head of State is authorized to make the decision to dissolve the assembly.

Erlan Sarsembaev noted that this mechanism is intended to encourage political forces to reach a common compromise and promote more responsible decision-making.
