Immigration advisors and private firms report a sharp rise in the number of Americans seeking second citizenship or foreign residency in recent months, CNBC reports.

Experts say this surge is driven by growing concerns over political and social instability ahead of the upcoming U.S. presidential election. Although Americans often talk about “leaving the country” during election seasons, this year is different: wealthy individuals are not just talking — they are taking concrete steps.

Dominic Volek of Henley & Partners says demand has reached unprecedented levels.

“We have never seen demand this high. Compared to last year, the number of Americans planning to relocate abroad has increased by at least 30%,” he said.

Additional findings from an Arton Capital survey show:

  • 53% of American millionaires said they might leave the U.S. regardless of the election outcome.

  • The most active group is young, wealthy adults (18–29), with 64% expressing strong interest in “golden visa” programs available through investment.

According to CNBC, ultra-wealthy Americans now see relying on only one passport as risky. Just as they diversify financial assets, they want to diversify citizenship to protect themselves from political uncertainty.

Experts believe this trend will continue in the coming years, as trust in the U.S. domestic political climate continues to decline.
