According to reports from Axios, high-stakes peace negotiations are currently underway between the United States and Iran. The two sides are utilizing intermediaries to discuss the terms of a 45-day ceasefire.

Initially, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a 10-day ultimatum, demanding that Iran accept specific conditions or face severe consequences. While the original deadline was set to expire on Monday evening, Trump unexpectedly extended it by 20 hours on Sunday, pushing the final cutoff to Tuesday at 8:00 PM ET.

In an interview with Axios, the President stated that the U.S. is engaged in "deep negotiations" with Iran and suggested that a potential agreement is achievable before the new deadline. However he was blunt about the alternative: if no deal is reached, the U.S. is prepared to launch strikes against Iranian infrastructure.

The diplomatic process is being facilitated by Pakistan, Egypt, and Turkey - three nations that maintain functional relationships with both Washington and Tehran. Although the American side has put forward several proposals in recent days, Iran has not yet publicly accepted any of them, and the White House has so far declined to offer official commentary on the status of the talks.
