The United States and Iran are issuing conflicting statements regarding the escalating situation in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump has warned that any Iranian attack on American vessels will be met with a severe response.

On May 4, the US launched "Operation Project Freedom" to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels blocked in the Persian Gulf. According to Washington, American warships are transiting the strait and escorting vessels from various nations.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that six Iranian small boats were destroyed, and several missiles and drones were intercepted. Furthermore, officials stated that no American ships sustained damage.

In contrast, Iran has denied these reports, claiming instead that they opened fire on American vessels, forcing them to retreat. Authorities in Tehran asserted that they maintain full control over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that the crisis cannot be resolved through military means and urged the US to refrain from using force. Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf added that US actions have jeopardized the safety of international shipping.

The Strait of Hormuz is of strategic importance for global oil transportation. While there is no independent data on the exact number of ships that passed through in the last 24 hours, some companies have reported that their vessels successfully transited with the assistance of US military forces.
