UN Leadership Highly Commends Kazakhstan’s Strategic Role at Regional Environmental Summit

Against the backdrop of escalating global geopolitical instability and the increasing prevalence of "power politics" over international law, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held significant strategic talks with an influential delegation of United Nations representatives. The delegation hosted at the Akorda residence included UN Under-Secretaries-General and the heads of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The Head of State provided a candid assessment of the current global order, stating that it is currently facing a "moment of truth." He emphasized that despite growing international tensions, global challenges such as environmental catastrophes and water scarcity can only be overcome through unified and coordinated action. President Tokayev reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s firm support for the "UN80" program, aimed at enhancing the Organization's authority, and presented Kazakhstan’s large-scale reforms focused on building a just and sustainable state.

A central theme of the meeting was the realization of Kazakhstan’s ambitious international proposals. The President highlighted two critical pillars of regional and global cooperation:
• International Water Organization: Reaffirming the commitment to establishing a dedicated water authority under the auspices of the UN.
• UN Regional Hub in Almaty: Strengthening the Almaty-based UN Regional Centre for SDGs as the primary platform for engagement across Central Asia and Afghanistan.
UN representatives lauded President Tokayev’s address at the summit as "substantive and courageous." They confirmed their full support for Kazakhstan’s regional initiatives and commended the high organizational level of the Regional Environmental Summit.
This meeting underscores Kazakhstan’s transition from a regional leader to a significant global player, capable of consolidating international efforts to resolve the most pressing issues of the 21st century.
