The United States military has announced the seizure of an Iranian cargo vessel, alleging the ship was attempting to breach an active blockade, Reuters reports.

According to U.S. military officials, the Iranian-flagged vessel was intercepted while en route to the Port of Bandar Abbas. The vessel reportedly came under fire before being brought under U.S. control. Washington has characterized the operation as a necessary measure to enforce and maintain the regional blockade.

Tehran has responded sharply, stating that the vessel had departed from China and condemned the U.S. intervention as "armed piracy." Iranian officials further warned of a forthcoming response, signaling a potential escalation in the region.

In direct retaliation, the Iranian government has officially withdrawn from the next scheduled round of negotiations with the United States. Tehran indicated that the decision was prompted by the ongoing blockade and Washington’s current diplomatic stance and demands.

Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref issued a stern warning regarding the situation, stating that if Iran's oil exports are restricted, the security of other nations in the region will no longer be guaranteed.

The incident occurs as a U.S. delegation prepares for an upcoming visit to Pakistan. Diplomacy between the two nations remains strained, as parties have previously failed to reach a consensus on Iran’s nuclear program and the strategic security of the Strait of Hormuz.
